IBM launches new Aptivas

Four new home PCs will join IBM's Aptiva E Series, when the vendor releases the E2A, E3A, E4A and E5A to market this Friday.

Priced from $2499, the PCs include the Windows 98 operating system and multimedia features such as ATI Rage Pro graphic accelerators, arcade-level 3D graphics, SRS 3D Surround Sound and ActiveMovie software MPEG.

Two of the PCs -- the E2A and E3A -- are entry level models in the E Series line and feature AMD's K6-2 processor with 3DNow! technology for enhanced multimedia capabilities. The E4A and E5A are based on Intel's 350 and 400MHz Pentium II processors.

Features:

Aptiva E2A (from $2499): a 266MHz AMD K6-2 processor, 4.0GB hard drive, 32x CD-ROM, 56K modem, 15in monitor, speakers and 2MG video memory.

Aptiva E3A (from $2999): 300MHz AMD K6-2 processor, 6.0GB hard drive, 32x CD-ROM, speakers, and 15 or 17in monitor.

Aptiva E4A (from $4299): 350MHz Intel Pentium II with MMX, 64MB SDRAM, DVD2x CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive, 8.0GB drive, 56K modem.

Aptiva E5A (from $5299): 400MHz Intel Pentium II with MMX, 64MB SDRAM, DVD2x CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive, 12.0GB drive, 56K modem, 15 or 17in monitor.
