Creative Technology has released a new PCI audio accelerator -- Sound Blaster Live! -- based on a new platform that Creative calls Environmental Audio. This according to Creative Pacific, distributor for Creative Technology, will deliver an experience on the desktop "that surpasses Hollywood quality audio and delivers unmatched immersive gaming interactivity".
Creative Pacific says Environmental Audio delivers "realism" -- producing real-time effects such as auto-wah, distortion, reverb, echo and chorus, and has the capability of "recreating concert-like music productions that make the user feel that he is in the middle of an orchestra".
Sound Blaster Live! incorporates an audio processor chip -- the EMU10K1 -- that has two million transistors and 1000+MIPS. Digital signal processing at 32bit and 48kHz is provided for by the processor.
Retailing at $499, Sound Blaster Live! also features:
A digital I/O card, which according to Creative Pacific, "provides capabilities found only on professional gear for recording and playback with digital precision".
Support for two or four analogue speakers plus a digital output connector, which supports up to eight digital speakers.
