Diamond Multimedia's Home Networking Business Unit has launched HomeFree, a wireless networking product that turns two or more PCs into a LAN.
The HomeFree wireless LAN utilises radio wave technology, operating at 2.4GHz, and provides up to 1Mbps bandwidth, passing through walls, floors and ceilings up to a 150 foot distance.
PCs connected by HomeFree may share peripherals (like printers), a high-speed Internet connection and files. A soft router is included to allow multiple PC users to access a single Internet connection and file sharing is provided for via networking software in Windows 95 and 98 systems.
HomeFree will come to market in September, with two versions to be available:
The Desktop Pac: at an estimated retail price of $230, this package will include an ISA card and a PCI card (this connects two PCs).
The Combo Pac: this package (estimated retail price $549), will connect a desktop PC to a notebook computer.
