Life-saving Aussie smartphone app released

Big Brother GPS application turns GSM mobile phones into personal tracking devices.

New software has been released that turns GPS enabled GSM mobile phones into sophisticated personal tracking devices.

The Australian-developed MySpot V.3 software from GoFinder can be monitored in real-time through the Internet, allowing lone workers to call for assistance at the touch of a pre-configured SOS panic button, which instantly shows their exact location.

“Once installed, the software can also be used to provide a verifiable record of workers locations over a shift period – something which is often a point of contention between the security firm and their clients – and even between guards and management,” said GoFinder spokesperson Graham Thomas.

The software captures GPS location data at pre-set intervals controlled by the user and allows supervisors working from a laptop to monitor the location of workers in the field.

For traveling workers, the software can set out a series of electronic “breadcrumbs” showing their exact trail on Google Maps.

“With this software there will be irrefutable proof via a history report and therefore no basis for any argument or dispute whatsoever,” Thomas said.

The software can also be used by parents wanting to monitor their children, as the mobile phone may be polled on demand for a location at any time, which is then displayed on a Sensis map.

The software works on any telecommunications network and is Symbian-compatible.
