Shuttle to debut small K5600+ PC with Via Nano in March

Shuttle's small K5600+ shoebox sized PC will debut in March with Via Nano microprocessors.

Taiwanese PC vendor Shuttle plans to debut a shoebox sized PC, the K5600+ with Via Technology's Nano microprocessor in March, a company representative said Sunday.

The small form factor PC will come with 1GB of DRAM, an 80GB HDD (hard disk drive) and DVD player and run Microsoft's Windows Home Premium OS.

Pricing was not immediately available.

The product will be among the first desktop PCs launched with Via's Nano microprocessor, which is the company's competitor to Intel's popular Atom microprocessor.

Via showed off several Nano-based netbooks, mini-laptops that are popular for their low prices, at the International Consumer Electronics show on Thursday. The chips can run at between 1.3GHz and 1.8GHz, according to Via.

The Nano replaces another Via chip in the K5600+, the Via C7. Shuttle also sells similar PCs with Intel chips inside.
