Telstra will offer the latest iPhone 3G S on a range of Next G cap plans.
Telstra, the last of the big three carriers to unveil pricing, has finally unveiled its iPhone 3G S plans, just hours before the official release of Apple's latest smartphone in Australia.
Telstra's launch was a far cry from Optus who revealed its plans four days earlier and also had a midnight launch at many stores across the Australia. Vodafone also announced its pricing plans two days earlier than Telstra.
The big news from the Telstra camp is the introduction of Telstra iPhone cap plans for the first time. The iPhone 3GS will also be available on the current iPhone plans and Telstra's phone plan ultimate.
Telstra's hero offer is the 32GB or 16 GB iPhone 3GS for $0 over 24 months on a $150 phone plan ultimate. The ultimate plan provides 2000 minutes of standard voice calls, 2000 text messages in Australia and 150MB of data per month.
On the Next G cap plans, consumers have to add a data pack to their monthly cost. Packs start at $5 for 5MB of data all the way up to $119 for 9GB of data. Telstra has yet to confirm if it will charge extra for Internet tethering, but this us unlikely — customers should be able to simply add on one of the data packs. Earlier in the week, Optus revealed that it will charge $9.99 per month for customers who wish to unlock tethering capabilities.
Telstra has also reduced upfront prices for the existing 8GB iPhone 3G. The existing handset is $0 on a $60 plan, $99 on a $40 plan and $199 on a $30 plan, all with 24 month contracts.
