Google sends out Android 2.2 to Nexus One phones

Over-the-air update will add Adobe Flash player and allow users to turn their phones into Wi-Fi hotspots

Nexus One owners have begun to receive version 2.2 of the Android software, codenamed Froyo, as an over-the-air update to their phones, Google said in a blog post on Monday.

The update will be rolled out gradually, and most Nexus One users will receive notification of it by the end of the week, Google said. A message will appear on their smartphone's notification bar, prompting them to download the update. Once downloaded, it will automatically install, according to the blog post.

Android 2.2 has a number of improvements, including the ability to turn a smartphone into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot and support for Adobe Flash within the phone's browser.
