RIM, Sprint announce BlackBerry "Style" 9670 Clamshell

BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion (RIM) today officially announced one of its most poorly-kept secrets of 2010: The BlackBerry "Style" 9670 clamshell

BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion (RIM) today officially announced one of its most poorly-kept secrets of 2010: The BlackBerry "Style" 9670 clamshell, formerly codenamed BlackBerry "Oxford." Sprint is the exclusive Style 9670 wireless carrier in the United States, and the device will retail for $100 after an equally valued mail-in rebate and along with a new two-year service contract. The BlackBerry Style goes on sale on October 31.

The first images of the BlackBerry Style 9670 hit the Web way back in April, so the arrival of this particular device is no surprise to Web-watching gadget geeks and "CrackBerry" addicts.

The BlackBerry Style is RIM's second BlackBerry "flip phone" behind the Pearl 82xx series, but the clamshell handheld is the first flip BlackBerry device with a full QWERTY keyboard. It's also the first officially released CDMA BlackBerry to run RIM's new mobile OS, BlackBerry 6, and it's only the second BlackBerry 6 device, behind RIM's BlackBerry Torch.

Notable BlackBerry Style 9670 technical specifications include:

* Display: 360x400 external; 240x320 internal

* 5MP digital camera with flash and autofocus

* Size: 3.78" closed, 6.912" open (height); 2.36" (weight); 0.73 (depth)

* Weight: 4.62 oz.

* 3G CDMA device (800/1900 MHz CDMA/EVDO Rev A networks)

* Bluetooth

* GPS

* Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n)

* 512MB of internal memory, ships with 8GB microSD card and supports media cards up to 32GB

* trackpad for navigation

* tethered modem functionality
