Engadget has released new images of the rumoured PlayStation Phone, which attempts to take portable gaming down the same route as the Apple iPhone.
The leaked images of the PlayStation Phone reveal a Sony Ericson logo, a long touchpad and a brace of familiar PlayStation buttons – including a D-pad and shoulder buttons.
According to Engadget, the device is likely to run Android 3.0, and offer access to a new Sony Marketplace for purchasing PlayStation Phone games. Specifications include a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and a 3.7in to 4.1in screen.
The PlayStation Phone seems to be a direct response to the Apple iPhone, which has been steadily gobbling up the handheld gaming market share since its release in 2007. At the time of writing, Sony has yet to reveal any specific game titles, but HD remakes of PSX classics seem like a safe bet.
The PlayStation phone is likely to hit stores some time in 2011.
