Honda Australia announced today that its new Insight VTi-L hybrid car will come with live traffic updates thanks to a partnership with Intelematics Australia.
The live traffic updates will be provided by Intelematics' SUNA Traffic Channel and will be a standard feature as part of the Honda Insight's in-car satellite navigation system.
Honda is one of a handful of automobile manufacturers partnering with Intelematics to deliver a live traffic service, with Ford, Nissan and Toyota also offering the feature.
"This is the first time our in-car satellite navigation systems have included live traffic information", said Stephen Collins, general manager of sales and marketing at Honda Australia.
"Our partnership with Honda further extends SUNA's presence in the in-car satellite navigation market, which has grown dramatically in 2010", said Intelematics Australia CEO Adam Game.
SUNA Traffic Channel is bundled with many in-car GPS devices currently on the market including the Pioneer AVIC-F20BT in-car navigation system. The service provides traffic-related updates including congestion, accident and road work information.
Honda said it plans to introduce SUNA Traffic Channel to other vehicles in the future, but did not provide a timeframe.
