If you've found your friends and co-workers to be unusually cuddly this morning, there's a perfectly good explanation: it's Hug a Gamer Day!
November 29th is the first annual Hug a Gamer Day; a day to celebrate all things gaming through the medium of hugs. In the words of 'event' founder Graham MacDougall: "We've got days to wear towels, days to talk like pirates, but this is the first planned Hug A Gamer day. So give your nearest geek a cuddle! They probably need it after all those pixels, but watch out for the Counter Strike reflexes."
The official Facebook page has well over 175,000 confirmed attendees, so the chances of getting a hug today are pretty good!
Hug a Gamer Day coincides with the date Pong was released (back in 1972); the first commercially successful arcade video game. We're not sure what the point of this whole exercise is, or whether it even has one, but as long we we're getting free hugs, we're not too bothered to be honest.
So put your mits around a gamer and give that flubber a good squeeze. You know you want to.
