According to technology Web site XBit Labs, the Nokia N9 will be powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Atom CPU, have a high quality 12-megapixel camera, and a 4in OLED capacitive touchscreen. No further specifications were revealed, though it is rumoured that the N9 will be launched at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.

MeeGo is an open source, Linux-based operating system which brings together the Moblin project, headed up by Intel, and Maemo, by Nokia, into a single OS that can run on smartphones, notebooks and other devices.

While the N9 rumours remain unconfirmed by both Nokia and Intel, the story quotes a Finnish website called Processori.fi as a source, suggesting the site may have access to Nokia insiders.

The N9 would be a welcome boost for Nokia, which has struggled to produce a high-end smartphone to rival Apple's iPhone 4 and handsets that run Google's Android platform.
