A follow up to the Telstra Tough T90, which launched in late 2009, the Telstra Tough 2's key features include an abrasion-resistant case, a 2.4in scratch resistant "gorilla glass" screen and an IP54 rating for water and dust resistance. The Telstra Tough 2 is also "Blue Tick" rated, meaning it delivers strong mobile coverage in regional and rural areas of Australia through Telstra's Next G network.

"Many of our customers tell us they're looking for a mobile rugged enough to support their active lifestyles," said Telstra executive director of mobility products, Warwick Bray. "The Telstra Tough 2 is more durable than the average mobile and provides the functionality customers need to be connected and productive in harsh environments."

"You can toss the Telstra Tough 2 into a toolbox or the cab of your ute and not worry about knocking the life out of it or scratching the screen. It's also a great companion for people who love the outdoors and activities like hanging out at the beach, camping, fishing or mountain bike riding."

Telstra says the Tough 2 mobile phone is targeted specifically at thousands of Australians that work in the field, on construction sites and out on the road every day, and subsequently need a phone that can handle extra wear and tear.

Other features of the Telstra Tough 2 include large buttons that make it easy to dial numbers while wearing gloves, a screen that claims easy reading in sunlight, and an integrated direct antenna connection point that will connect to a specially designed car kit that will be available from Telstra in the coming weeks.

The Telstra Tough 2 mobile phone also includes a 3-megapixel camera, an integrated MP3 player and FM radio, built-in GPS, Bluetooth, a hands-free speakerphone and expandable memory thanks to a microSD card slot.

The Telstra Tough 2 is available now through Telstra Shops and dealers and online. It can be purchased for $360 outright or on a variety of 24 month plans including $0 upfront on a Telstra business mobile maximiser $49 plan over 24 months. The plan includes $450 worth of standard national calls and messages and 1GB of data.
