Nokia all but confirms N9 MeeGo smartphone

Nokia N9 smartphone to run the new MeeGo operating system

Nokia may be floundering in the high-end smartphone wars (and will soon be switching to the Windows Phone 7 platform for its N-Series devices), but its newest MeeGo powered N9 smartphone has just been shown off in a teaser video.

The Nokia N9 hasn't been officially confirmed by Nokia, but the company posted a teaser video of the device on its Facebook page under the title, "The promised Nokia N950/Nokia N9 running MeeGo!" The YouTube video was originally published by technology Web site Pocketnow.com.

The short clip is only 52 seconds long, but it clearly shows that the N9 is a slider-phone that features a full QWERTY keyboard in a similar design to the Symbian-powered Nokia E7. The user interface of the MeeGo platform isn't demonstrated in any length, but short snippets during the video show the main menu, the Web browser, the front bezel and a section of the slide out QWERTY keyboard.

The teaser video also shows that the Nokia N9 has a 12-megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens, which is the same camera specifications on the Nokia N8. The N8 is widely considered to be the best camera phone on the market, though its Symbian software received harsh reviews.
