The Lumia 620 will retail for $329 and will be sold across the country through JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman and Allphones retail stores. The new Lumia device is among the first entry-level smartphones to run Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Nokia Australia’s managing director, Steve Lewis, said the Lumia 620 is firmly targeted at a youthful demographic.

"We want to deliver smartphones, under the Lumia umbrella, that appeal to a range of people and age groups. With the Lumia 620, we're targeting a more cost-conscious younger audience who do not want to compromise on features and functionality. It’s a great choice for someone looking to make the smartphone switch."

The Lumia 620 was first announced back in December but no Australian release information was revealed at the time. The phone has a 3.8in, TFT touchscreen with a resolution of 800x480, is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, has 512MB of RAM and comes with 8GB of internal memory. A microSD card slot allows users to expand storage.

Other features of the Lumia 620 include a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, a front-facing VGA camera and built-in NFC connectivity. However, unlike the more expensive Lumia 820 and flagship Lumia 920, the Lumia 620 isn't 4G capable.

Despite being a low cost, budget smartphone, the Lumia 620 comes with the same range of Nokia-exclusive apps as higher priced models. It features Cinemagraph and Smart Shoot camera lenses, and comes preloaded with Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive, Nokia City Lens and Nokia Music apps.
