LG has today confirmed it will be releasing an updated range of L Series Android smartphones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade show in Barcelona later this month.

The new devices are slight specification upgrades to existing L-Series models, rather than completely new phones. They will carry the rather uninspiring "L Series II" name.

The new devices include the dual SIM capable Optimus L7 II, the Optimus L5 II and the Optimus L3 II. The L7 II will be officially unveiled in Russia this week, while the L5 II and L3 II handsets will be revealed at a later, unannounced date.

LG says the Optimus L7 II has a 4.3in IPS display with a resolution of 800x480, an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and 4GB of internal memory. The full range of L Series II smartphones will run the 4.1 Jelly Bean version of Google's Android platform.

The aggressively priced L Series range of Android smartphones were first launched in Australia last July, alongside a marketing campaign spearheaded by TV personality and former Miss Australia, Erin McNaught.

LG claims to have sold 10 million Optimus L Series phones globally in the first 10 months, but has not revealed any Australian sales figures.

MWC is the world's largest mobile trade show and traditionally sees most major mobile manufacturers release new smartphones. It is held annually at the end of February.
