Company of Heroes marching on June 25

Tactical strategy game gets dated for Australia following acquisition by Sega

Sega has scheduled the release of Company of Heroes 2 on PC for June 25 in Australia.

The game’s release was clouded in uncertainty following the bankruptcy of prior publisher THQ, but the quick acquisition of developer Relic Entertainment ensured the future of the game’s release.

With the acquisition out of the way, Company of Heroes 2 will be made available by Sega in the middle of the year, which is nevertheless later than the early 2013 date originally set by THQ.

Relic Entertainment executive producer, Jonathan Dowdeswell, said the additional time is being used to make the game “meet the high standard set” set by 2006’s Company of Heroes.

“Our acquisition by Sega has given us the chance to work with a new partner that has a great track record of working with long standing PC franchises,” he said.

“It gives us great confidence to know that we have a well aligned team working to bring the best experience we can to gamers around the world.”

Company of Heroes 2 has been built on the new Essence 3.0 Engine and makes used of the ColdTech weather system, the TrueSight line of sight system, and realistic destructibility.

The game is set in 1941 during World War II, when Germany launches an invasion of the Soviet Union, with the player taking command of the Soviet Red Army.

Despite the delay, Relic Entertainment producer, Greg Wilson, players will soon be able to help the developer test and balance multiplayer in the upcoming closed beta.

“We hate to disappoint our fans with a later than expected date as we know they are eager to play but we feel that the additional time will help the team deliver the high quality sequel fans deserve,” he said.
