Nokia launches subscription-based music service

Playlists created by musicians for $4.99 per month

Mobile phone manufacturer, Nokia, is the newest name in the subscription-based music service game, having launched its own offering, Nokia Music+, yesterday.

Music+ is built on the existing Nokia Music Mix Radio service, giving Lumia users access to “a wide number of playlists curated by an expert team of musos and international artists” for $4.99 per month.

To upgrade to the service from a handset, Lumia users must select ‘Nokia Music’ from the main file menu, tap on ‘Settings’ and then choose the ‘Upgrade’ option. Going into the ‘Nokia Music+’ section will then activate the subscription, and ‘Mix Radio’ is where playlists can be found. A free, seven-day trial is available, too.

With the service, users are also able to download unlimited mixes for offline playback, and can listen to them via Internet-enabled devices including PCs and tablets.

In addition, when connecting through a network or Wi-Fi, users have the option of selecting higher quality audio.

Other features include infinite skips and access to lyrics.
