Klick Stylus Pen combines analog and digital writing in one

Morrison Innovations' Klick Stylus Pen puts ink inside a capacitive pen to offer the best of both worlds.

Our world remains less than purely digital, and physical methods of writing still persist. Utensils that make the switch between capacitive surfaces and paper simpler and easier have existed for some time. Morrison Innovations wants to make them common stock by presenting the pairing on the cheap with the Klick Stylus Pen (funding through June 5).

Inside an anodized aluminum shell rests the guts of an ordinary ballpoint pen--the replaceable sort, sold at generic office suppliers. A click of the cap produces the business end of the ballpoint in typical fashion, but subsequently retracts it through a 5-mm capacitive stylus tip. It thus acts as a more precise substitute for your bare finger on a touchscreen or a more boring substitute for a painty finger on paper.

The Klick is intended to hit market at $20 per pen, but you can secure yours in blue, red, or black (the pen, not the ink, which is black only) for $15. Larger bundles offer varying degrees of discounted prices for multiple Klicks, as do limited supply early bird options (set around retail price) that'll have yours on your door a month earlier if all goes well (June versus July). With a little more than a week to go, the Klick has amassed less than a third of its $15,000 goal.

Confidence level

Morrison Innovations is a husband and wife venture, one that Robert opted to pursue full time after the success of their iPadCleaningCloth.com site. He's got experience building businesses and, while a capable Chinese manufacturer is lined up, the duo appears to be packaging and shipping the pens themselves. Their initial run of production has finished, and they're now waiting to see how large their first order will be.
