Oracle's 'reshape' deal with Microsoft just a certification deal

Oracle Database, WebLogic Server, and Java now certified for Windows Azure and Hyper-V

Last week, Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison stirred up many news sites with a claim that new partnerships with Microsoft, Salesforce.com, and NetSuite would "reshape" the cloud computing landscape. The Microsoft deal caught the most attention, given the two companies' fierce rivalry.

Today, Oracle and Microsoft unveiled the details, which boil down to certified compatibility on Microsoft's Windows Azure cloud platform and on Microsoft's Hyper-V virtualization environment for Oracle Database and WebLogic Server, in addition to other unnamed Oracle enterprise apps. Those apps had previously been certified to run on Windows Server. The two companies also announced that Java was now certified to run on Azure and Hyper-V, not just on Windows Server.

Microsoft will also resell Oracle Database and WebLogic Server to its customers.

Oracle has yet to say what its partnerships with Salesforce.com or NetSuite entail.
