Channel Ten's new catch-up TV app isn't available for Android yet

Tenplay now available through the Web, on iOS smartphones and tablets, and on Sony Bravia televisions

Australian free-to-air network TEN has officially launched a catch-up TV service to rival ABC's iView and SBS' On Demand, but the app isn't available on Android just yet.

The network announced today that its new Tenplay service is now available through the Web at Tenplay.com.au, on iOS smartphone and tablet devices, and through an app for selected Sony Bravia televisions.

However, it won't be available on Google's Android platform until later this year, and isn't yet available for Sony's PlayStation 3 gaming console.

Network Ten's Chief Digital Officer, Rebekah Horne, said the Tenplay service is the first stage in the company's digital play.

"tenplay represents a true transition from linear broadcasting to a consumer content experience that is multi-screen and multi-platform, giving people access to Network Ten’s content anytime, anywhere and on any device."

"tenplay extends the traditional television watching experience by offering personalised, cross-platform content delivery, designed with the user experience as the top priority."

The Tenplay service will include both catch-up content and a live streaming service, the latter accessible by signing up for a free account.

Among the featured content is popular US TV show Homeland, which has just entered its third season, along with Australian talk show TV program The Project.

As part of the launch of Tenplay, the service streamed the first episode of the third season of Homeland today, just 15 minutes after it was broadcast in the US.
