Vodafone has announced it will double its monthly data inclusions on a selected range of month-to-month voice plans and 12-and 24-month contract plans.
The telco announced today that all new month-to-month voice plans (SIM-only) of $45 and above, and all new contract plans of $60 and over will receive double the regular data allowance, provided customers sign up by Friday, 3 January 2014.
The bonus data deal will apply to any new customers signing up to a postpaid contract plan, or a SIM-only plan, as well as any existing Vodafone customers who upgrade their plan.
For 12 or 24 month contract plans, the double data offer will be valid for the life of the plan, while SIM-only plans will receive the double data rate for a period of 24 months.
Vodafone Australia's Chief Marketing Officer, Kim Clarke, said cutting data allowances was an "industry trend" that the company does not want to follow.
"There is an unfortunate industry trend to cut data allowances as a way of exploiting greater consumption, but we’re not going to run with the pack"."We know our customers are using 61 percent more data than they did a year ago and that's 50 percent more than the national average. Our customers have a huge appetite for social media, photo sharing, watching videos and streaming music and we want to give them the freedom to do that. We have increased our data allowances this year while the others have sat on their hands or gone backwards."
Vodafone has confirmed that the double data offer is valid for mobile plans only, so mobile broadband and iPad plans are not included.
The new data offer is available from today through all Vodafone stores across Australia, the Vodafone website and through the company's customer call centre.
The increase in data allowances comes on the back of last month's announcement that existing Vodafone prepaid customers can now access its 4G network.
Vodafone also announced earlier this week that it has doubled the data allowance on its $30 prepaid cap from 500MB to 1GB as part of a Christmas promotion.
