Turn your selfies into 3D figurines

Shapify.me allows users to create mini-clones with Kinect

For $US59, the new Shapify.me service will turn a Kinect-based body scan into a three-dimensional figurine – all within the confines of the consumer’s home.

Shapify.me is the product of Luxembourg-based 3D imaging vendor, Artec Group, which manufactures 3D scanners and 3D face recognition technology.

To create and order a 3D figurine, all that is required is Microsoft Kinect for Windows in order to do the body scan, the Shapify.me web site, and a PC with fairly standard specifications (including an Intel i3 CPU or better, 4GB RAM, and 64-bit Windows 7 or later).

Scaled to one-twentieth of a person’s actual height, the figurine can be purchased in either coloured or plain white plastic, the latter of which allows buyers to paint whatever they desire.

Shapify.me figurines are priced from $US59. Delivery is free within the US and Europe. According to Artec, “delivery services to other countries are planned,” with the service set to go global soon.
