Sony is one of a few companies with an ecosystem rich in entertainment gear. Now the company has partnered with Telstra to release the wearable SmartBand SWR10.
Why do I need an electronic bracelet?
Sony’s SmartBand logs information on your general wellbeing. This includes your daily step-count, if you have exercised and your sleeping patterns. The data is transferred over Bluetooth to Sony’s Android Lifelog application.
Jawbone and FitBit offer similar alternatives, but Sony’s SmartBand better complements the functions of a smartphone. The band will vibrate when you receive notifications, such as a text message, and it can be used to play, pause and skip music tracks.
Sony plans on expanding the SmartBand's functionality with future updates that will make it possible to “log routes and times for driving, cycling and train trips”.
How much?
Currently Telstra, Sony kiosks and Sony’s online store are selling the SmartBand for $159; however, Sony said in a press release “other major retailers will be confirmed soon”.

Telstra is offering the band outright or it can be added to a mobile contract at a $5 instalment per month over 24 months following a $39 upfront payment. Either way, the Sony SmartBand will set you back $159.
