While customers can pre-order the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 now from Microsoft's Store, the latest version of the Windows 8-based slate device will be available to buy from Australian retail stores from 28 August. The outlets included are JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman, as well as commercial resellers. For those of you who pre-order the tablet using Microsoft's online store, it will ship from the 28th.
Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 has been available in the United States for the past couple of months, with company only now announcing its roll-out to Australia and other countries around the globe. It will be available to pick up in various RAM and storage configurations at the following price points:
• Intel Core i3 version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB SSD: $979
• Intel Core i5 version with 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD: $1209
• Intel Core i5 version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD: $1549
• Intel Core i7 version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD: $1829
• Intel Core i7 version with 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD: $2279
The Surface Pro Type Cover, which has been designed for use with the Surface Pro 3, costs an extra $149.99, and is needed if you intend to use the Surface Pro 3 as a laptop. A docking device for the Surface Pro 3 will cost $229.99 and will be available in Australia by the end of September.
The new tablet has many different features compared to the second version that was released last year, including a slimmer design, a bigger and better screen, and a more versatile built-in stand.
