Apple has conveniently slipped up by revealing the new versions of its iPad online, one day ahead of the company’s scheduled launch event.

The accidental leak occurs at the same time Google announced the HTC Nexus 9 tablet, which will go head-to-head with the Apple iPad Air 2.

Images of the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3 were posted to Apple’s iTunes store. The screenshots confirm the return to a numerical naming convention for Apple and the advent of two new features coming to the iPad.

Apple’s TouchID technology will be introduced to the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3. The tech turns the home button into a practical finger scanner, which can be used to unlock the tablet or to make purchases from the iTunes store.

The second notable addition is a burst mode for the camera.

Despite looking identical to their predecessors, a 9-to-5Mac report claims the next generation tablets will come with an A8X processor, improved camera optics and updates software.

Apple is expected to launch a new range of iMacs and a 12in MacBook, in addition to these iPads. The company will stream the event live at 4am in Australia.
