HMD Global has announced that they plan to take their remastered version of iconic Nokia 3310 to new markets with a 3G model.

Speaking at the product's global launch event in Sydney, HMD Global Chief Marketing Officer Pekka Rantala said that “we’ve listened to our customers and that’s why we’re proud today to announce that we are making the much loved 3310 available to even more fans across the globe – including Australia – with this
modern classic now reborn in 3G.”

Available from mid-October, the Nokia 3310 3G will boast 6.5-hour talk time, up to 27 days of standby, a colorful modern design, a customizable user interface and - of course - Snake.

Rantala said that Australia will be the first territory to receive the throwback device, with other markets to follow.

According to HMD, the announcement came after an overwhelming positive reception to the launch of the Nokia 3310 2G at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The event also saw HMD officially announce new local partnerships with carriers Vodafone and Telstra. News of the former came unofficially broke back in August. However, today's announcement came with the news that Telstra will be getting an exclusive version of the Nokia 5 (with an extra 1GB of RAM) as part of their partnership with HMD.

Locally, the Nokia 3310 3G will retail for $89 from mid-October through JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Vodafone and select Optus retailers.
