Nokia 1 Release Date, Price & Specification Rumours

With an expected retail price of around £70, the Nokia 1 is coming soon with Android Go. We round up the rumours concerning the Nokia 1 UK launch date, price and specifications.

Since Nokia unveiled its first Android phones a little over a year ago we've seen it introduce the Nokia 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8. But we're still waiting for the Nokia 1, the entry-level model in its line-up, and the Nokia 9, its flagship. Both are thought to be announced at next month's MWC tradeshow, and to go on sale in March. Here's what we expect from the Nokia 1.

When is the Nokia 1 release date?

Nokia is expected to unveil the Nokia 1 at a MWC press conference on Sunday 25 February 2018. The phone will then likely go on sale in March.

We reckon the Nokia 1 will arrive alongside the Nokia 9 and an updated version of the retro Nokia 3310 with 4G.

Whatever Nokia has planned for MWC, it's going to be awesome tweeted HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas:

Sorry for radio silence. Been super busy planning #MWC2018 . Please expect it to be awesome ?

How much will the Nokia 1 cost?

As the entry-level model in Nokia's Android family the Nokia 1 is expected to command a retail price of around £70 ($95/€80).

What are the new features expected in the Nokia 1?

The Nokia 1 is tipped to run Android Go, which is a version of Oreo designed for entry-level phones and first-time Android users.

Android Go has many of the same features as Oreo, including the Google Assistant, but it preinstalls fewer apps that are also lighter on storage and data. This returns smoother performance on lower-spec hardware, allowing even the cheapest smartphones to provide a decent user experience.

Go also makes it easier to track down and delete unwanted files that are hogging storage space. It keeps tabs on your data usage and it takes security concerns out of your hands with preinstalled Device Manager and Google Play Protect.

So bearing in mind that it requires a lighter OS, great things are not expected from the core hardware. But nor should they be given the price point we expect the Nokia 1 to hit.

Rumours suggest we'll see an HD (720p) IPS display, 1GB of RAM and just 8GB of storage. This spec is very similar to the Android 2, but of course that phone runs full Android.

Nokia has promised that no matter the price of its devices the build quality will be premium, so we can expect a metal frame for the Nokia 1. The body is likely to be polycarbonate at this price, as suggested by the images leaked on Baidu (shown at the top of this page).
