Moto E5 Release Date, Price & Specification Rumours

The Moto E5 appears to be a metal phone, with the fingerprint scanner now moved to the rear

Everyone gets excited over the Moto G series, but its the Moto E family that offers the best value for money of all. But when is a new model coming out, and what can you expect?

When is the Moto E5 release date?

Smartphone launches tend to be annual affairs, and the last Moto E - the Moto E4 - landed in June 2017. So you might assume the next Moto E - the Moto E5 - would arrive in June 2018.

However, there has been some speculation that the Moto E5 will actually arrive earlier in April, potentially going on sale in May. This talk comes from the fact the date shown on the screen of a leaked render of the Moto E5 - often a giveaway of smartphone launch dates - is 3 April. After all, why select such a random future date if it doesn't mean anything?

The image in question was published by MySmartPrice.

How much will the Moto E5 cost?

MySmartPrice predicts the Moto E5 will cost between US$118 and $148. The Moto E4 is slightly more expensive than this.

What are the new features in the Moto E5?

In common with the Moto G6, which will launch alongside a Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play, it's possible that the Moto E5 will also get Plus and Play variations. The Plus is a slightly more powerful model with a larger screen and battery; the Play has slimmed-down specs but a high-capacity battery.

From the leaked image the Moto E5 would appear to be a metal phone, with the fingerprint scanner now moved to the rear (within the Motorola logo). Both front- and rear single-lens cameras are paired with an LED flash, and a Micro-USB port is visible at the bottom. This also looks like a standard 16:9 panel, perhaps 5in in diameter.

For now we have no other information about the Moto E5 specs, but we will continue to update this article with fresh information as it arises.
