Australians can now preorder the Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift S VR headsets

It's Gonna Be May

Months after they debuted at last year's Oculus Connect conference, both of Oculus' new headsets are now available for pre-order in Australia.

The Oculus Rift S is an upgrade over the company's original VR headset that offers improved optics, tracking and ergonomics. It'll be able to play all the same games as the original Rift headset but, like that product, does require a connected PC with enough graphical punch to deliver on those experiences.

Australians will be able to pick up the Rift S for AU$649.

You can read our review of the Oculus Rift S here.

Meanwhile, the Oculus Quest is the company's second standalone VR headset. Relying on inside-out tracking tech and dedicated graphics hardware built into the headset itself, the Quest requires no external tracking units or sensors but is able to offer many of the same VR experiences that the mainline Rift and Rift S are capable of.

The Oculus Quest is currently available in two sizes: 64GB (AU$649) and 128GB (AU$799). You can read our full review of the Oculus Quest here. In it, we said that the "Oculus Quest provides a room-scale VR experience without the need for a gaming PC—or wires at all. This is the first VR headset with a chance to win over the masses."

There's also a travel case available for the Oculus Quest, priced at AU$85 (which, as a former Oculus Rift owner, seems like a genuine godsend).

At the moment, there's no official release date for either product on the Oculus Website. However, if you add the Quest or Rift S to your shopping cart, the storefront indicates that orders will be dispatched from the 22nd of May onwards - so, essentially, Australians are looking at a mid-May launch for both headsets.
