The panel, which has a 20.8-inch colour TFT (thin film transistor) LCD (liquid crystal display) panel, is a high-performance model designed for workstation use. It supports up to 3,200 by 2,400 pixel QUXGA (Quad Ultra Extended Graphics Array) resolution, has a 0.132-millimetre dot pitch or 192 pixels per inch, can display 16.77 million colours and has a maximum luminance of 200 candela per square metre.
The company presently offers display driver software for Sun Microsystems' Solaris 7 operating system and is planning a Windows 2000 driver.
Toshiba launched the display in Japan earlier this year and hopes to sell around 3,000 of the monitors worldwide during its first year on sale. It will carry a price tag of around $US3,000 when it goes on sale sometime in the third quarter. Australian availability has yet to be determined.
