As a writer who is constantly moving around, I usually find myself in many different environments. The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

Setting it up was effortless, and the short 10 second start up was appreciated. Aesthetically, the LifeBook UH574 is dashing and slim (and dare I say, almost sexy). I love features such as the spill-resistant keyboard and the large track-pad.

At first glance the new and very modern Windows 8 layout intimidated me but I soon realised the ease of having all programs close together in one combined home page. It also includes the option of the traditional Windows desktop for those who prefer not to live life so perilously.

The 64-bit operating system and 4GB of RAM was more than adequate for my tasks and it was also rather impressive for a smaller device.

The touch-screen capabilities were more responsive than I initially thought they would be but this caused me to become almost paranoid about having to clean marks off the screen. I began accumulating more and more fingerprints over time but I still don’t regret it.

One thing lacking to me was the absence of a built-in optical drive. This does a massive disservice to the LifeBook as it has very sharp graphics. The lack of this feature also causes you to throw more money into a separate, stand-alone optical drive product.

All in all, the LifeBook UH574 stands out in many ways and would be an asset to anyone. I give this device a four and a half star rating.
