Hewlett-Packard’s new L2035 20in LCD monitor provides a resolution of 1600x1200, has a solid brightness rating of 250 nits, a contrast ratio of 400:1 and an impressive 16ms response time which is great for video performance.
It has a height-adjustable base with slim bezel and pivots easily from landscape to portrait orientation — simply grab an edge and rotate it. Our test suite of images looked great, with razor-sharp text and graphics with vivid, accurate colours.
With a viewing angle of 170º and warranty as standard, the L2035 also has some nice extra features. In addition to DVI-I and VGA support, it has connectors for composite and S-Video. It also has a nifty picture-in-picture feature that allows you to preview and toggle between images from two different video sources, such as a PC and a DVD player.
If you don’t really need to view a wider range of spreadsheet cells or multiple open windows simultaneously, you can find any number of quality 17in LCDs for under $650 these days (see the April 2004 issue’s 17in LCD monitor Best Buys). But if you are willing to shell out for the extra screen real estate, HP’s L2035 delivers a high-quality image and a solid set of features at a fair price.
