Primus Telecom today revealed prices for its Tasmanian fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services as part of the National Broadband Network (NBN). Customers residing at Midway Point, Smithton and Scottsdale in Tasmania can already order the new FTTH services as part of NBN Tasmania which will then be delivered by Primus Telecom in late June and early July.
The NBN plans will start from $39.95 per month when they are bundled with a phone plan, which start from $24.95 per month. iPrimus is also offering an $89.95 Max FTTH plan for half-price ($44.97) for the first six months if customers sign up before 30 June. This plan includes local, national and mobile calls and broadband access, and includes line rental, a wireless router and free setup.
Services like ABC’s iView will be part of the unmetered content that iPrimus customers can access without adding to their monthly download quota.
Primus' Andrew Sims said that getting customers connected quickly to the NBN was the ISP's first priority. “We are trying to get the first customers in Australia connected to the NBN Tasmania FTTH service,” he said. “This will be on a first in, first connected basis."
CEO Ravi Bhatia said that he was proud of the fact the Primus is one of the first companies to be NBN ready. “We are thrilled to be partnering with NBN Co to provide state-of-the-art communications in Tasmania. This proof of concept really demonstrates the capabilities of the new generation high-speed fibre network and gives everyone the opportunity to see the potential of services that can be provided over the new the FTTH network,” he said.
“The availability of reliable bi-directional true 100 Mbps services will lead to the development of new skills, creation of new service industries and hundreds of new high-tech high paying jobs in Tasmania. In the future, Tasmania may very well become known as the smart isle instead of the apple isle,” said Bhatia.
