Amaysim will use the Optus mobile network in Australia
Amaysim, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, today launched in Australia, promising low prices and high quality customer service backed by a dedicated, in-house customer service centre.
Amaysim is a SIM-only mobile product described by its founders as a "low cost recipe" that provides a simple, fair and transparent pricing scheme.
Using the Optus network, Amaysim offers 15 cent per minute calls to any network in Australia with no flagfall, 12 cent SMS messages and 5 cents per megabyte of data. Amaysim also offers a 1GB data pack with a 30-day expiry for $9.90. The prepaid service has no minimum monthly spend and no contracts. International texts are charged at 25 cents, while MMS messages are 49 cents.
The Amaysim can be used as a regular SIM in mobile phones as well as Apple’s iPad — the SIM card can be snapped out into a microSIM.
Rolf Hansen, CEO of Amaysim, stressed customer service as one of the key benefits of using the new mobile operator.
“Low cost doesn’t in this case mean low service. We have an in-house customer service centre in Chatswood with a staff of 42 people,” he said. “High price levels, complex tariff structures, low competition amongst carriers, confused and dissatisfied customers are all reasons as to why we think this is perfect for the Australian market."
Amaysim is currently available for purchase on its website for $5 and at over 2000 retail locations including Woolworths, Harvey Norman, Caltex and 7 Eleven outlets for $2.
