LG to launch world's first 3D smartphone

LG Optimus 3D to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

LG has announced it will be the first manufacturer to launch a 3D smartphone, the LG Optimus 3D.

Set to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this month, the LG Optimus 3D will offer a glasses-free LCD panel for 3D viewing, and will also be equipped with a dual-lens camera for 3D video recording.

Although official details have yet to be revealed, the Optimus 3D is likely to run Google's Android operating system. It follows the launch of the original LG Optimus, the LG Optimus One, and the LG Optimus 2X; the latter being the first smartphone to run a dual-core processor for enhanced multimedia, gaming and Web browsing.

Described by LG as its "most advanced smartphone to date", the LG Optimus 3D will also feature HDMI connectivity and DLNA for sharing 3D content.

More details, including launch dates and pricing, will be announced at MWC, which runs 14-17 February.
