Seemingly everything. That's what we know about Google's upcoming Nexus 5 Android smartphone, which is set to be announced later this month. From colour and storage variants, to technical specifications and software features, there appears to be little left to uncover about Google's flagship smartphone for 2013.
The leaks started early in October, when a service manual of the LG-D821, otherwise known as the Nexus 5, was leaked onto the Internet by US blog Android Police. The document reveals almost all of the phone's specifications, and while none of the leaks have been officially confirmed by Google, the tech world seems to be in unanimous agreement that the leaks are legitimate.
The Nexus 5 is expected to include a 4.95in, full HD IPS display, will be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and will have 2GB of RAM. The device is also expected to have an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a front-facing 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls, and a 2300mAh battery.
Like most Nexus devices, the Nexus 5 will not have removable storage. It will be available in 16GB and 32GB models, an upgrade over the Nexus 4's 8GB and 16GB options. The biggest technical addition to the Nexus 5 will be 4G-connectivity, a feature that was lacking in the Nexus 4.
We also know what the Nexus 5 looks like. Last week, US blog Mobile Syrup published a leaked press image of the Nexus 5 from Canadian telco TELUS. The device shows a slightly redesigned home screen for Android 4.4 Kit Kat, with the major change seeing the Hangouts app replacing the Messaging app as the default (and only) SMS application. There's also redesigned icons for phone and camera, and a fully transparent notifications bar.
The biggest giveaway of all came over the weekend, where the Nexus 5 briefly appeared on the US Google Play Store before disappearing very quickly. US Web site The Verge reported that the phone was listed for US$349, which was the same price the 16GB model Nexus 4 sold for when it debuted last year.
The Nexus 5 listing on Google Play included the words: "Capture the everyday and the epic in fresh new ways. Starting at $349. GSM Arena managed to save a quick screenshot of the press image that was posted along with the listing.
Finally, Chinese blog Ctech today published a press image of a white variant of the Nexus 5. Unlike the Nexus 4, this white model appears to be white on both the back and the front. The site seems to suggest the white version will make its debut on the Google Play Store at launch, though this is obviously yet to be confirmed.
