Samsung's 28in monitor uses UHD to improve multitasking

Goes on sale for $750

‘If you build it, they will come’ appears to be the ethos of Samsung’s vigilant Ultra HD campaign, as the company continues to release products that support the standard in spite of a lack of content.

The recent addition to the company’s UHD range is a 28in monitor called the UD590. The monitor has an LED-backlit LCD panel — with lighting stemming from the edges — and a viewing angle of 165 degrees

The headlining feature is the monitor’s 3840x2160 resolution, not only for its ability to support whatever UHD content is available, but because of the way Samsung taken advantage of the technology.

Displays compatible with UHD content have 8.29 million pixels; that’s four times as many as the current Full HD standard. The additional pixels makes it possible to display up to four displays in native Full HD resolution.

Samsung’s UHD monitor uses the extra pixels to multitask applications at resolutions up to Full HD, or to support the displays of two notebooks simultaneously in their native resolutions. The monitor hosts two HDMI ports and a display port.

Other impressive specifications include a 2ms response time and a 1000:1 contrast ratio.

Samsung’s UD590 is currently available in Australia for $749.
