Sweeping changes are being made to AldiMobile with revised plans, improved network speeds and the launch of a 5in smartphone in the lead up to Christmas.
The low cost operator announced it will add more data to its ‘Value Pack’ prepaid plans. An extra 100MB, 250MB and 1GB will be added to the company’s $20 M, $30 L and $35 XL plans respectively. AldiMobile is also introducing a 1.5GB data pack at $16.50.
Calls and texts to other AldiMobile customers will also be free when the revised Value Pack plans come into effect on 3 November.
AldiMobile is a mobile network virtual operator (MVNO) of Telstra’s 3G network. The company claims it has ‘improved’ network and data speeds in an effort to promote Internet usage, but offered no other information.
Coinciding with the revised value plans is the launch of an Android smartphone developed by Bauhn. The Bauhn Sphere is a dual-SIM smartphone that operates on 2G/3G networks. It will be priced at $279, come with a “60 day satisfaction return policy” and a 1-year repair warranty.
Specifications on the Bauhn Sphere remain scarce. The smartphone has a 5in IPS display and a MediaTek 6582 1.3GHz quad-core CPU. The resolution of the display has not been disclosed.
The smartphone will run Android 4.4 KitKat, has 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and supports microSD cards up to 32GB. Powering the smartphone is a 1800 milliamp-hour battery.
Photos taken with the Sphere will be at 8 megapixels when taken with the rear camera, or at 2 megapixels if taken with the front camera.
The Bauhn Sphere will be offered “only while stocks last” as an ALdi special buy from Saturday, 1 November.
