FreeviewPlus comes to Samsung TVs

Samsung’s range of TVs now support Catch Up TV

Samsung is the latest manufacturer to become FreeviewPlus certified. Its range of smart TVs, including its newly released SUHD, 4K models, will allow users to access Catch Up services through the interface of the TV.

This will provide a more seamless ‘hybrid TV’ experience for users wishing to catch up on free-to-air shows they may have missed live. The Catch Up services include ABC’s iView, SBS On Demand, Ten’s TenPlay, Seven’s 7Plus, and Nine’s JumpIn. Previously, these services could be accessed primarily via computers or mobile devices, and a select few FreeviewPlus-certified TVs and a set-top box.

Samsung Electronics Australia’s head of content for smart TVs, Evan Manolis, said in a press release that the decision to become FreeviewPlus certified was a ‘straightforward’ one.

The certification adds value to the smart TV experience for Samsung’s models, especially for users who are currently in the market for a new TV and are comparing features.

With FreeviewPlus, content can be viewed, browsed, searched, and marked as favourite, and recommendations on what to watch are also given.

The FreeviewPlus-certified TVs will be available from the major retailers, including Bing Lee, The Good Guys, David Jones, Myer, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman, and JB Hi-Fi. A good Internet connection is required.
