Samsung is launching a Nougat beta test for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

If you don't mind a few hiccups, you'll be able to join in on a limited beta test of Android 7.0 on Nov. 9.

If you have a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, the wait for Nougat has been long and agonizing. Fortunately, a giant light is shining right at the end of the tunnel as Samsung is poised to launch a beta program here in the U.S. as well as the U.K., South Korea, and China.

To get in on the action, you’ll need to install the Galaxy Beta Program app from the Galaxy Apps Store (you’ll need to be on your mobile device for the link to work).

It’s not clear if there will be some type of limitation on the number of those who can take part in the beta. So my advice is to grab the app and keep checking in for when the sign-ups go live, which should be Nov. 9.

The Galaxy Beta program will soon be open for business.

Be sure that everything essential is backed up, as such beta programs can be a little on the buggy side. Odds are it shouldn’t cause a major catastrophe, but it always helps to be smart.

Why this matters: The latest numbers from Google indicate that only 0.3 percent of the devices out there are running Android Nougat. A big part of adoption is driven by large companies like Samsung who make the most popular devices. Once Nougat rolls out to phones like the S7 line and others from LG, HTC, and Motorola that number will start to finally tick up higher.
