JBL take smart speakers back to the living room Link 300

JBL have added a third product to their range of smart speakers: the JBL Link 300.

According to Michael Mauser, President of the Lifestyle Audio Division at HARMAN, "we are thrilled to pair JBL’s incredible legacy of award winning sound with our growing line-up of voice-controlled speakers,”

Mauser says that the “JBL LINK is a first-class wireless smart speaker that allows consumers to entertain and enjoy world class sound in a sleek package.”

Like the JBL Link 10 and 20 before it, the JBL Link 300 is a hands free voice-activated speaker that comes powered by Google Assistant built-in.

Functionally, this means it offers all the same capabilities as the regular Google Home. You can ask questions, tell it to play music, check the weather, set reminders, consult your calendar, listen to news bulletins and interact with both connected smart appliances and compatible third-party services.

In terms of features, the JBL Link 300 also comes with the same range of connectivity options as its smaller cousins. The smart speaker supports 24 bit/96kHz High quality audio via built-in Chromecast, works with both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and supports multi-room playback with other Chromecast-enabled speakers.

The biggest differences are largely found in the design and technical specs of the speaker. On the outside, the JBL 300 boasts a more living-room friendly look but drops both the water resistance found in the Link 10 and 20 speakers and the portable battery life. Then, on the inside, the JBL Link 300 ups the ante by equipping itself with a 89mm woofer and 20mm tweeter.

JBL say this allows it to deliver "incredible room filling sound."

The JBL Link 300 is available now via the JBL website at an RRP of $349. Expect it to arrive in Australian retailers from as early as next week. You can also buy it through the JBL Online Store here.
