Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup will consist of four devices, including a 5G model

A set of leaked codenames for Samsung's next flagship smartphone have indicated that a 5G model might be on the cards.

As originally reported by XDA-Developers, a set of XML files found in a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S9 suggests that the 2019's Galaxy S10 lineup will consist of four devices, code-named 'beyond'.

XDA used similar tactics back in February to correctly predict this year's lineup of devices.

There are no additional specs or details available but the internal names for each of the four devices in the range are as follows:

  • Beyond0
  • Beyond1
  • Beyond2
  • Beyond2 5G

For obvious reasons, the naming conventions here has led XDA to suggest that the last model in the sequence - Beyond2 5G - is likely to be a 5G-enabled variant of the S10+. If so, it would be the first flagship Samsung device to ship with the next-generation connectivity.

Samsung have previously said that the Galaxy S10 would not ship with 5G connectivity. This latest set of leaks lines up that statement.

Meanwhile, Beyond0 is expected to be an entry-level model in the same vein of Huawei's P20 Lite, Beyond1 will be the regular S10 and then Beyond2 will be the S10+. As with previous Galaxy devices, there are expected to be two variants of each model here: one running on a Samsung Exynos processor and one running on Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon chipset.

While we expect more details to be revealed in the coming months, the S10, S10+ and S10+ 5G probably won't launch until February or March 2019 at the earliest.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ were announced at this year's Mobile World Congress and then launched a few weeks later. Don't be surprised if Samsung works on a similar timeline here.
