Battery Life

The E4 delivers pretty serviceable battery life, but this aspect of the device feels a little cut short by the strengths of its processor. It’ll get you through a 10-12 hour day of mixed use. Unfortunately, like most smartphones, you’ll still be putting it on charge before you go to bed.

This isn’t a huge deal-breaker, given the price. However, it’s still a bit of a shame since the less-intensive processors found in budget phones like the E4 can sometimes give them the potential to last that much longer.

The PCMark Battery Life Test saw it drop to 20% charge in about nine and a half hours.

The Bottom Line

As far as $249 smartphones go, the Moto E4 is hard to beat. Sure, some corners have been undeniably cut. However, where it counts the experience is a whole lot better and smoother than a lot of what else is out there. Additional inclusions like a fingerprint sensor and support for Nougat’s Google Assistant contribute to making the E4 feel a whole lot more expensive than it actually is.

If it supported the MotoMod ecosystem or offered a better camera or IP-rating, it’d be easy to paint the E4 as a major disruption to the status-quo of budget phones. As it stands, it’s not quite that - but it still has everything you’d want (and expect) from a $249 smartphone. The E4 a solid pick for those who want a phone that ticks all the right boxes and doesn't break the bank.
