Microsoft-owned Nokia will finally sell its first tablet in Australia. The company's Lumia 2520, a 10.1in tablet that runs Windows RT 8.1, will be sold exclusively by Telstra.
Telstra was attracted to the Lumia 2520’s Windows operating system and its 4G connectivity, according to Andrew Volard, the telco’s director of product devices.
“A bit under half of Australian small businesses, have most of their customers located more than 20 kilometres away. There’s huge demand to be able to work more flexibly on the go and at customer premises. With the Lumia 2520 connected to 4G, owners can work with ease and stay on top of emails as well as edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.”
Strong hardware
Nokia unveiled the Lumia 2520 at the Nokia World event in October of 2013. The tablet will be able to compete with the latest from Samsung and Sony, even though seven months have since passed.

The Lumia 2520’s 10.1in screen has a 1920x1080 resolution and a density of 218 pixel-per-inch. The screen will be bright at 650 nits, is coated in the now superseded Gorilla Glass 2, and is complemented by front-facing stereo speakers.
Nokia has used the Snapdragon 800 chipset, configured with a 2.2GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Storage can be expanded by a further 64GB with by using a microSDXC memory card.

Powering the Lumia 2520 is a large 8120 milliamp-hour battery allegedly capable of looping videos for 11 hours. The use of a microUSB 3.0 port enables 80 per cent of the battery to be charged within one hour.
Nokia’s continual investment in imaging technologies will benefit the Lumia 2520. The tablet has a 6.7 megapixel camera and is equipped with Carl Zeiss optics — a first for a tablet. The camera has an impressive f/1.9 aperture and can record videos in Full HD resolution. A front facing camera captures 1.2MP stills and records videos in high-definition.
Rounding off the Lumia 2520 is a strong range of connectivity features. The tablet supports 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, near field communications (NFC) and GPS.

How much will it cost?
Telstra will sell the Lumia 2520 as of 6 May online, with the device going on sale in stores from 13 May. The tablet will be available on a 24 month contract or outright for $840. Pricing as detailed by the press release follows:
Customers can purchase the Nokia Lumia 2520 on a $35 Telstra Tablet Plan, plus $25 per month device repayment when they stay connected for 24 months, which includes 4GB of data ($0.85c/MB) for use in Australia ($60/month - minimum cost over 24 months is $1,440).
Business customers can purchase the Nokia Lumia 2520 on a $35 Telstra Mobile Broadband Business Member Plan, plus $25 per month device repayment when they stay connected for 24 months, which includes 4GB of data ($0.85c/MB) for use in Australia (minimum is $1,440 ($60/month).
Telstra customers can also add the Nokia Power Keyboard for $10 per month with an Accessory Payment Option (min cost over 24 months $240).
